The Magic of Ordinary Days
So I watched this movie awhile ago and I ran across it again when I was looking through the tv guide last night. I am mostly struck by the title: The Magic of Ordinary Days. I often find myself thinking about how can ordinary days be filled with magic? They are just ordinary, we do the wash, we clean the dishes, we sweep up messes, kiss boo-boo's, try to make sure our kids don't kill themselves or eachother and by the end of the night I'm exhausted and the thought of waking up to do it all over again is not that appealing. But then there are those sweet and tender moments that you spend with each member of your family. With Benji it's when he gets super excited about making cookies, or eating popcorn for breakfast or watching him with his little brother "Come on James, let's go downstairs and play." Or when he gets his blanket and wraps it over just him and me and we shut the world out for a moment. Or even just when James and Benji get together, I can't help but pause a moment when I see how happy they are to have eachother. It's James when he wraps his arms around your neck and squeezes as tight as he can or he starts laughing at you when you're trying to be mad at him for trying to sneak outside for the 100th time that day. With Dave it's just watching a basketball game together and him letting me ask stupid questions about sports or players and him not judging me for asking the stupid questions or when he cleans up the kitchen while I do my visiting teaching. While I don't always see the magic in my ordinary days I know it's there if I just pause a moment and drink it in for magic is something caught with the believing eye by someone who is looking for it.
