Rear Window

I'm sitting here trying to think of what to write and as I look out the window all I can think about is that Alfred Hitchcock movie "Rear Window." There are a bunch of apartment buildings surrounding us and when I was looking out across the street I saw someone turn the light on in their apartment and thought of that movie. Not that anyone is killing their spouse or anything, but just the dynamic of living in a fish bowl where people can look out their windows at you.

Anyway this week we went to the Washington Monument and road up to the top. The windows up there are really dirty and while I know what is happening down below is real, it seems fake, like they're playing a movie. Then on the way down the elevator they defog the windows and you can see the inside of the monument, which is filled with large plaques from different states who donated to the project. They are each made out of different materials indigenous to the state where they came from and carved with the state name and designs. It's really cool.

Wednesday we went to the park with a playgroup in the ward here. It's been nice to meet some new people and talk to other adult women. Well they mostly talk and I listen, but I like it that way. The rest of the time, we've been shut up in the apartment. I've been a bit dizzy the past couple of days so I don't dare go anywhere in case I faint or something somewhere or can't make it back. Today it's raining so it's okay that we haven't gone anywhere. The past couple of days though the weather has been beautiful in the 60's. We have 9 days left and I am so excited. I miss home and normality.

This is the view from the window inside the Washington Monument

This is inscribed in the floor on the second floor down in the Washington Monument. We were 490 feet up from the ground.

This is a cute picture I took of James falling asleep on his daddy. He was crying about something and he went to his daddy. The next thing I know he gets quiet (he's still awake) then he slowly falls asleep. It was the funniest and cutest thing ever.
